Course title UMTS System Survey
 
Course description This course offers a broad introduction to the UMTS network release R3 (99) as well as R4 and R5. The functions in UMTS Core Network as well as the UTRAN nodes UE, NodeB and RNC will be explained. The new WCDMA radio interface and its channels will be examined including the generation of codes and spreading/de-spreading. Quality of Service in 3G is paid special attention. In the course the mobile will be followed through Cell Search, Call Set-up, Power Control and Soft Handover. The principles of a RAKE receiver is explained. The course is the natural starting point to learn UMTS.

Prerequisites General telecom experience is preferred but not compulsory.
