Course title UMTS UTRAN Protocols and Procedures

Course description The UTRAN radio access protocol architecture is presented in the context of circuit switched and packet routed traffic as defined by 3GPP. Traffic cases for real time and non real time services in the UTRAN channels and radio protocol layers are used to explain the architecture. Traffic flows are followed from the UE through the radio layers RRC, RLC, PDCP, BMC, MAC and PHY to the Core. Special attention is taken to explain why the different layers have been designed as they have and their close relation to end-to-end services (QoS). The course offers a broad understanding of UTRAN from the radio protocol level.

Who would benefit Those working with UMTS and require a good system understanding of UTRAN architecture and radio interface protocols. Suitable for engineers in production, implementation and operation of UMTS Network.

Prerequisites UMTS System or equivalent knowledge.
